Lisa Carr #$0 Down

What is the significance of your name and number?

I've worked for Fletcher Jones Toyota for over 11 years! It's a play on "lease a car".  People usually think it's my real name at first.  I can't tell you how many newer skaters come up to me after a few months and say, "I JUST figured out your name."  I didn't want a super scary derby name because I like to fly under the radar. 😉

How did you get started playing roller derby?

I can't remember what originally piqued my curiosity about roller derby but I went to 1 bout and I knew it was something I wanted to do. New Years 2009 I had 3 resolutions:  1)  study improv comedy 2) get my motorcycle license and 3) start playing roller derby. Check, check, aaaaaand check.

How long have you been skating?

My very first practice was February of '09 so almost three and half years. I always joke that I deduct my term as league president off my skating time because I barely made it to practice!

What is your favorite derby position to play?

Blocker. This body was built for blockin', not speed. I like to call my rear posterior my "weapon of ass destruction".

What is your greatest derby achievement so far?

Ha! Probably not quitting roller derby entirely after serving as league president.  I'm joking...mostly. 😉 I'm really proud of how far I've come skill-wise within the last 6 months or so.  I'd say I worked my butt off  but it's only gotten bigger as I skate more.

What is your favorite part of skating with Sin City Rollergirls?

This is a hard one to articulate.   There are SO many things.  I have so much love for this league and the skaters in it! <3

Do you have a derby crush? Who is it?

It changes occassionally but right now I have 2.  They are Juke Boxx from Minnesota Rollergirls and Fisti Cuffs from Gotham Girls Roller Derby.

What is your day job?

See above. 🙂  My title at the dealership is Business Development Manager.  It pretty much entails "do everything that nobody else wants to do and know everything about everything but I'd have to double check my job description with human resources.

Who is the biggest influence in your life?

My significant other Lawton who is our league photographer (www.vegasshooter.com).  He is beyond supportive, loving, and patient in all aspects of my life but especially roller derby. He also puts in countless hours of work for our entire league.

What is the strangest thing in your purse or wallet right now?

That would probably be New-Skin Liquid Bandage spray. I had a really gnarly blister when I got new skates and that stuff kept me skating.  It's come in handy several times since then though so I haven't taken it out of my purse!

Tell us one thing about yourself that we wouldn't expect...

I've recently been diagnosed with lupus. I should probably pick something gentler on my body like yoga or water aerobics but roller derby is SO much fun! It definitely makes a challenging sport even more challenging but nothing can put the brakes on this Carr!
