What is your skater name and number?
What is the significance of your name and number?
My husband and his friends have called me Diesel Barbie for years, so it was an easy one for me. 500hp is an engine size, so it went with the Diesel part of my name.
What is your athletic background?
As a kid I pretty much tried all kinds of sports from Windsurfing and racing Hobie Cats to dance and tennis. I've been pretty active my entire life. I started running 5k's, 10k's, half-marathons and obstacle-course mud runs in my 30s. I also cycle pretty regularly.
What do you enjoy during your downtime? Outside interests?
I love spending time with my family and friends, playing with our dogs, spending time at our cabin sitting on the porch watching a rainstorm with a good book and a glass of wine, and traveling to new destinations.
Are there any life lessons that you’ve learned playing roller derby?
When you get knocked down, get back up, dust yourself off and keep going, and do it as fast as possible!
Dislikes? What drives you crazy?
My biggest pet peeve is when someone uses the word "irregardless". It drives me crazy when someone quits something without ever really trying and then complains about it.
What is your hometown?
Santa Barbara, California, but moved to Las Vegas when I was 5.
What is your motto, favorite quotes, or words to live by?
My favorite quote is from the Marianne Williamson poem titled "Our Deepest Fear" (although Nelson Mandela is often misquoted as the author of this poem). It says " Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?" I say "Who are you not to be" to my daughter all the time. I want her to know that she can be anything she wants or dreams to be.
