What is the significance of your name and number?

I really love a techno song called Shiny Disco Balls and I was rockin' out to it one day when I thought Shiny Balls sounded a bit like a fun name but not quite derby enough.  Since I had been drafted onto the VIP's I decided to go with Glitter instead of Shiny, turned Balls into Brawls and immediately new that I had my derby name.

My number is the area code for Chicago's loop and since that's the city I grew up in it's a bit of a shout-out to all my friends and family still there.

What is your athletic background?

I don't have much of one.  When I was in elementary school I used to love roller skating and bike riding around my neighborhood but as I got older I never found a sport that really hooked me.  In my late teens / early 20's I spent a lot of time dancing in clubs and that turned into taking random and sporadic dance classes.

What do you enjoy during your downtime? Outside interests?

Reading Sci-Fi Fantasy novels and watching movies are my 2 favorite ways of unwinding.  I can't say that I have too many outside interests at this point since I have dedicated so much of my time to working at becoming a better athlete and over-all derby player.

Are there any life lessons that you’ve learned playing roller derby?

So SO many.  I could probably write a short novel in answering this question so I'll just focus on the one that's had the most impact on me.  Never give up.  Never stop pushing.  Just keep your feet moving and you'll find that progress is being made even when you think you're stuck.

Dislikes? What drives you crazy?

Made-up drama.  I enjoy working, living and playing in drama-free zones and when I encounter a situation that is all hot and bothered only because people have made a mountain out of a mole-hill I can't function.  Sometimes real life is dramatic and serious situations require a serious approach but there is no reason to make conflict when it doesn't already exist.

What is your hometown?

Northbrook, Illinois.  It's a suburb about 20 minutes north of Chicago.

What is your motto, favorite quotes, or words to live by?

My general life motto is if you can keep your sense of humor intact, you can face any challenge set before you.

What are the top 3 items on your bucket list?

1. Make out with Leonardo DiCaprio

2. Go hang-gliding

3. Take a month long cross-country road trip in an RV with my boyfriend and our 3 dogs.  I imagine it would be an amazing, frustrating, wonderfully romantic time that would leave us all a little stinky and covered in dog fur.
