Major TBI

10291083_538020356298198_6695574045550634177_nWhat is your skater name and number?

Major TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) 16%

What is the significance of your name and number?

I tend to be a "go big or go home" type...sometimes that means I do too much and don't take great care of myself...one weekend in Japan, I went snowboarding with my husband and was playing around in the trees.  I knocked into a tree branch with my helmet, but thought I was fine.  I boarded the rest of the day but it got progressively worse and we figured I had a mild concussion.  So of course I went boarding again the next day...and went to derby practice that night.  A teammate kidded we should name me Mild TBI (this is also a reference to AFN commercials, for my military peeps), and the name stuck.  We changed it to Major later on to make it sound more like a person/pun.

16% is the percent of people who get a TBI by being struck by an object or striking against something...a group I obviously belong to.

What is your athletic background?

Long, long ago I used to play a little basketball, run track, and for most of high school I danced.  In college I started ROTC and subsequently joined the Air Force, so I've run/swam/lifted/worked out fairly consistently for the last 12 or so years...although I will avoid running whenever I can.

What do you enjoy during your downtime? Outside interests?

Crossfit, yoga, hiking, reading, crafting, trying to be Martha Stewart (although having a job is really hindering that), bartending, shopping (the reason I need a job), hanging out with my husband and dogs watching Netflix or in the pool with friends, snowboarding.

Are there any life lessons that you’ve learned playing roller derby?

I would say not to be so dang hard on myself, but I'm still working on that...

Dislikes? What drives you crazy?

Mechanized voices freak me out...too many people behind a small bar...jerk drivers....crap beer...people who think there is only one Kansas City and that it's in Missouri.

What is your hometown?

Spring Hill, Kansas

What is your motto, favorite quotes, or words to live by?

Go big or go home

Not my circus, not my monkeys

Tomorrow's a new day

What are the top 3 items on your bucket list?

Too many to list or rank (I might have a small problem with appropriately prioritizing...anything, really)...I want to do all the things!
